Hello from the Critique Club:
Since I couldn̢۪t vote in this challenge, this is the first time I̢۪ve had a chance to look at your image. My first impression was that this was a nice image of a toy car and that it would probably score around a 5. You did a nice job with the lighting and you tried to make the image interesting with the shallow depth of focus. As you can see from the comments you received, the shallow depth of focus is a love it or hate it kind of effect. Toys don̢۪t score very well at DPC unless it is for a toy related challenge or the image is exceptionally creative. This is even truer for a challenge where the voters expect to see a real car in an ad type setting. Overall, the subject matter (toy), composition (straight on), and lack of dramatic lighting created an image that is good but not exciting and easy for the voter to give it a 5 and move on.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique.
Tim

Not terribly realistic-looking. |

Nice selective focus. Looks too much like a model to me though. |

Composition, framing, colors nice even for a toy. Too tight dof, but not bad overall :) |

The shallow DOF hurts this one for me. I'd rather see the whole car in focus. 5 |

I like the use of DOF on this shot....gives a sense of motion, even though the car is still. Kinda jumps in your face. |

Nice shallow DOF on this toy car - not a big fan of the composition, but you have done well to display this. 6 |

I give you big props for the concept, would have like to seen better depth of field and maybe another angle. But using a toy car gave me the 'why didn't I think of that' feeling. |

I am not liking the toycar being used here. This has a very snapshot feel to it, and as such, will probably score averagely overall. nothing in this shot excites me or provokes a reaction.. sorry. |

Personally I wouldn't buy a toy viper and the top half of the car is oof. I don't care for this image, sorry |

Uninspired title.....and I'm having a hard time going with a met challenge here with this not even being a real car. |

The DOF is a bit too thin here. I'd close it up at least one stop for a shallow DOF, or 2-3 stops to get it all in focus. |

The viper... Nice DOF. Technically a good shoot. I would like to see the 1:1 scale car's in this challenge. IMHO -5- |
