Challenge: Long Exposure III (Basic Editing)
Collection: 2007 Challenges
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4.0 AT-X Pro DX
Location: Avery Point Groton CT
Date: Dec 17, 2007
Aperture: f22
ISO: 200
Shutter: 4 sec
Galleries: Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Dec 17, 2007

Multi-second exposure at sunset taken in RAW.

Opened using CS2 - adjusted exposure, white balance, and curves. Save as JPEG. Opened Elements - adjusted Shadows/Highlights, adjusted Hue/Sat, Noise Ninja. Cloned out 5 or 6 sensor dust spot (I need to clean that sensor!!!). Save for web.

Opened and USM at small radius, adjusted hue/saturation, readjusted curves and added USM at large radius.

Hopefully people can see the motion of the water. It is not exactly what I had in my head when I planned the shot, but it is pretty close. The lighting was not the best - the light was on the wrong side of the rocks - but I really didn't want to get too wet, and really didn't want to set up in the water. I wish it was not so windy so I could get some of my longer exposures into good sharp focus, but this was the best effort I had.

Prediction - should be on the sunny side of 6

A great 'silky water' shot that I have no doubt would have done even better but for the fact that there seemed to be a plethora of them in the challenge (says the man who took one of about 1,000,000 moving car lights in the same challenge). perhaps one of the problems with DPC is that on occasion you can see so many things of beauty that you become a tad blase about them and not appreciate them individually for the wonderous images that they are

I love the sharpness of the rocks in the foreground and the shells on the beach are another great touch

Lovely image which like several in the challenge was sadly underrated

Peter,

I think this shot should have been alot higher, The tones and details through out this shot gave this a very interesting and beautiful composition. Congrats on the 6 score. Very lovely Image.

Really like the water srurface, the texture of the rocks and the overall color mood, but found there was not enough of the sky in the shot (you cropped it off because it was blown?).

I am sorry to be proven wrong here, I think you should have done a lot better - can't believe my own picture did better than yours! Your picture rocks, especially these vivid colors ...

Keep up the good work, and happy new year!

I love the mix of textures and colors. A bit eerie, but very lovely as well.

I think a lower angle might have worked better.

well done. it looks like you are on top of a mountain looking down at clouds at first glance. very cool idea for a long exposure.

Good light balance, and the color is pretty nice. Would've liked some other colors in addition to the orange and gray/mist here.
