Taken after a snowfall of 10-12 inches...There were a whole bunch of birds at the feeder and I had my girlfriend step in front of the window to make them fly off...luckily I got the show on my first try, but no dice after that.

Hope this one does well, although it was a last minute entry.

I don't mind the soft focus. I love the background with the fringe of green at the top and the flakes of snow. What I would change, if this was my image, is the white halo around the bird. It can't be done under the basic editing rules, but I would use the clone tool to erase the halo.

thank you everyone for the mixed comments.

the comments seem to alternate between loving and hating the soft focus on the subject, but thats alright. I learned that next time people would rather just stick to the tack-sharp images.

It's a nice catch of something that was clearly moving fast, but as an entry, it lacking some. Blurry, grainy and other than a neat catch of the bird in flight, not much interest. Sorry to be so harsh on it.

Nice capture ΓΆ€“ although the image looks a bit blurred. Not sure if intentional or not.

Good idea, but a bit too much movement. I wish the head was in focus and clearly visible. Movement everywhere else is not bothersome.

Wow, that must have be a hard shot to get. It is a little out of focus and the bird being in the middle of the frame does seem to take away from the photo.

but it does give off a feeling of coldness.

If this had been pin sharp it wouldn't be half so appealing. It has a very transient feel, like the snow it's flying through. Beautiful work :)

Very nice capture. I hope you don't get hit for the soft focus as it really adds to the effect of the shot.

Normally a shot of a single bird might not do it for me for this challenge, but the way this is presented most definitely meets the challenge. I love that the bird itself is not sharp - it's fluid and blurred and quite lovely. The motion can be felt. I love that the background is a background. I even like that the bird is centered. It speaks of transience, of beauty, of simple grace.

I like this capture and gave it a 7. good timley shutter for what I'm sure was a difficult shot.
