 Immature Black-crowned Night Heron.

This outtake probably would have scored better, but I thought the shot I entered showed more texture. And I like this diagonal composition better. Too bad it wasn't Advanced rules.

You really captured this well Julianne but the focus seems a bit soft. It has a nice diagonal to it.

Composition is very good on this - how close were you?? Just slightly better focus would help to really show off the varying textures - the beak and the feathers.

That spooky looking eye really jumps out at ya. I can see the detail in the feathers below the head but since my attention is drawn to the eye, I'd like to have seen a little more focus on the head. I do love the diagonal you created with the beak.

Seems to be better focus on the feathers around the chest, which show some good texture.

You usually need to get the eye in focus for animal shots, but your image is focused further down.

The point of focus seems to be down on his neck while it would be much better if you could have it more on the eye. You did get nice and close for the shot.
