One of my first shots with the new Nikon 80-400 VR. Shot at 330mm.
Covert in RSP with settings:
Color Temp 11900, Tint -25, Exp. Comp +.10, Fill Light +5, Shadow +5, Highlight -30, Medium Cont. Curve set at 8 and 226, crop to square, save as TIFF
Cleaned in Noise Ninja set to auto. Save as TIFF.
In PSE6 tweaked Levels, applied Craquelure Texture Filter set at spacing 50, depth 5, brightness 9, resize, sharpen (USM) slightly, add white border, save for web.
Post Challenge:
Well I knew this would probably bomb. The effect I was going for was kind of woody, like a wooden panel or heavy cnavas. Some seemed to see it by comments like:
"Your filter choices make it look as if they're clay ducks - kind of surreal ..."
"they look like flying wooden ducks because of the canvas effect."
"Painting feeling... Clear and sharp still .."
But most thought the effect trashed an otherwise good photo.
In either case thanks for all the votes and comments. Guess I wont go there again. LOL!

Good capture.. not sure the pp (presumption) is allowed. Prefer to have seen the photograph anyway. |

is this a filter? Looks like a puzzle or a wallpaper. Otherwise really nice captured. Very good sharpness and composition |

Potentially a great photo, not so keen on the treatment though. |

I would like to see this without the canvas effect. |

I think I'd like it better without the texture you've added.

Neat effect. Looks like it belongs in a story book. |

I'm not sure the pattern adds to the image -- in fact, I find it a bit distracting. |

I like the shot but I think what you've tried to do with it in post processing ruins it, sorry. |

Nice composition. I'm not sure what the canvas style adds to the photograph. |

I really like this effect, and use it myself, but I'm sure you're getting hammered for it. 6 |

I like your image. Your filter choices make it look as if they're clay ducks - kind of surreal. |

This was awesome without the tacky canvas treatment. |

Capturing three birds together is pretty impressive without having to dress it up with fancy post processing (which might even go beyond what's permissible). The square crop doesn't work - I'd loose much of the top and some of the bottom. |

the texture in your pp makes this look fake and completely kills the overall composition for me. |

Oh, I honestly wish I could see this without the texture. I really does nothing to enhance this otherwise fine image. |

Not everyone is going to like the texturing. I do like the capture alot - especially with the feet down on the one bird. They seem so intent and so purposeful - and very much at peace, which is nice. |
