Don't be sad, the most important is that you like this picture.........:-) |

I think the portrait part itself is marvelous. I think the issue is with the background. The reason isn't the processing but the frame the child is in. I think either starting at the horizon or just including would have helped. I'm not good with portraits myself, so this is just a guess.
Still it is a terrific moment and something to be happy for. |

Perfect exposure on your cousin. I like this also. Maybe the background looks a little washed out. Nice job though. |

I like the tones in this shot. But I can tell you from experience (most recently with my bombed Free Study entry) that when you go with what other people like it's going to end badly - (tongue in cheek here). Meaning... you lose your objectivity and that generally brings the lower score with it. That said, I would have given this a 5 for a decent photo with not a lot of wow. |

I gave this a 5. If the pose were different I would have scored it higher. It also seems a bit washed out |

nice shot but as you said its what she wanted and you gave her---that is in my mind exactly why it didn't do well --i gave it a 5 |

I liked the shot but felt it would probably not do well as it has a slightly family holiday album feel to the pose. It is beautifully exposed though. |

I think that a little work on the pose would have made a whole lot of difference. But as you said, the important thing is that it is a meaningful shot to you. |

sweet shot, probably a little too snap shot-ish for a Free Study. I'm glad you entered a shot that had meaning to you. I did the same and barely scored higher.
If you had used the 50mm Macro with all that mojo you would have scored a full point higher, for sure! ;-)

I think it's very well exposed - not every shot has to be massively contrasty, nor is every day a perfect sunset/dramatic clouds in sky kinda day. What I liked about this when I saw it was her smile. She strikes me as very self-confident and just a bit of an imp. And though it's probably not politically correct to mention, I liked the indications that she's growing into early womanhood - to me, that's very sweet. As with a lot of my shots, if I like it, and if the person who's picture it is likes it, it's golden, regardless of what everyone else thinks. From a DPC perspective, this will indeed be seen as a snapshot. To you and your cousin, an excellent memory of a great afternoon together. Which is the better of the two? :-) |

feels a little snapshotish. The girl is just standing there, and seems very disconnected from the background. I do like her simple smile though, it would make a beautiful closer-up shot. |

A little saturation might brighten the background up a little. |

good light, nice subject, but too much dead space on the sides. I would suggest portrait composition and not landscape. |

It's good that you've positioned the subject off-centre and she's well exposed. |
