Five shots taken in sequence of my son catching a pass from off-camera.

created from five sequential shots. copied each shot as a layer onto the first. used quick mask to select the kid and ball in each layer. cropped to dimensions shown. layers for levels and curves. soft-light layers to highlight catch and darken sky (as well as add a little vignette). Used noise ninja. USM at large radius 2x. upped the saturation using a channel mixer layer. curve layer and brightness/contrast layer. resize, added border, save for web. went back to give some more yellow to the goal posts, did a little sharpen on his face and jersey, and a soft light layer to add a little more vignette. save for web again.

I'm surprised this didn't do better...

The Brady wearing #12 is usually on the other end of that pass ;-)
Nice action sequence.

The whites in the sky are a bit blown out. I do like the stop motion of each of the bodies. I can actually feel the rotation of the ball.

Good action in this time lapse. Nicely captured. Would have been better with Manning instead of Brady though ;) jk.

Great concept. I would like to have seen the angle changed so that I as the view could see the actual catch. The placement of your focal point seems off and I thing would the "rule of thirds" would also improve this shot. Again, though, great concept!

Bravo! Now get several over-trained over-paid lunkheads to jump on him :-) Very nice comp and colours.

Nice shot, I like how you burned the edges to help bring out the subject.

muckpond: yes! a boy making the play. totally natural.

GeneralE: I bet he doesn't even want to be there. Dad is making him do it. Unnatural.

scalvert: ball is natural. kid is unnatural.

muckpond: but his eye is on the ball at all times. everything he does is to catch the ball. It's natural.

scalvert: he could have caught the ball one-handed. he could have headed the ball first. he had to make a large number of decisions. not natural.

muckpond: headed the ball? that's soccer.

scalvert: most countries call it football.

Not too bad. Don't care for the burning on the field (or dodgind around the kid, whichever).

I like how this lines up with the ball catching up to him.

I love the anticipation you've captured in his eyes. The perspective and framing is all brilliant. The leading space really lends itself to the incoming ball and leading the eye through this time lapse. Well done!

Shouldn't Brady be throwing the pass? Nice capture - good colors, good sharpness, and well composed

Ah, here it is. :) Nice final version, Steve (not voting, of course)! I'm glad you didn't go with the flowers, although from what I've seen, you had the best concept and image with that subject.

Excellent sequence and great detail. Nice spiral on the football and great catch - he never takes his eyes off the ball!
