Challenge: Rivers & Streams (Advanced Editing VI ("Time Lapse"))
Collection: Challenges 2008
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Iraq
Date: Jan 8, 2008

Hoping this resembles a lazy river or creek. It's a man-made canal linking the bodies of water created by Saddam Hussein on the complex now used by the US and coalition forces called Victory Base Complex, in Baghdad, Iraq.

This was taken my last day in Iraq - hence the dual meaning of the title. It's not a bridge, really (though I was standing on one to take the shot), it's a cable carrier.

Tone-mapped from an HDR version generated from a single RAW capture. Minor adjustments to that version. And even with the increased file size limit, this is still reduced to 49% quality to stay under 200K. Taking it to 50% took it from 167K to over 200K. Not sure I understand the compression algorithms.

I thought this was from back in Germany. I think you made great choices on this shot: the framing, the processing. It's gorgeous.

Deb a lovely shot which whilst being full of rich autumnal colours brings to mind the feeling of a late summer afternoon. Beautifully tranquil, which knowing were it was taken adds a different take on many peoples perspectives of the area

Glad you are home safe and sound

I love coming to read your notes. I liked the pic during voting but now I see how symbolic it is as well. You've really done a great job making these places look like more than just a bowl of sand. I love the browns and reds and their reflection is beautiful. I also like radiating circle in the foreground. Glad you are home safely!

And here I was thinking you were in a barren land.

Love it. Lots of great impact. Good strong colors without being oversaturated. The ripples from the duck add just the right touch to the image.

I really like the warmth the lighting gives this, though it may be just a touch harsh on the structure. It is a well-balanced composition.
