 This was taken from the overlook to the Hanalei Valley as well. Here you see the Hanalei River and it is reddish from the huge amounts of rain today and the runoff from the mountains. The taro fields are on the left and right of the river. Mountains surround this valley except where it meets the Pacific Ocean at Hanalei Bay.

Taro grows in flooded fields and the valley has grown taro for thousands of years as far as I know. They rotate different varieties of taro just like their families did. Hanalei is largest taro farm in all of Hawaii.

love the sunlight in the foreground and the blue tint in the background .. love the sense of distance .. its a beautiful place where you live .. altho i've probably said that many times before .. :)
