Out of my box again, so we'll see how this fares :-)
I wanted to get just the basics of a cat face, with the eyes drawing immediate attention. I picked this cat because he was conveniently a buff tabby against an off-white wall. In this shot I liked his pose looking off into the distance, the exposure was light enough to be a good starting point, and there are great catchlights in his eyes. I was hoping that would give me just enough leeway to keep decent eye color while lightening up everything else for a high key effect.
A little noisy and soft but I don't see another way around that in Basic other than what I already tried. Soft actually suits the personality of this particular cat.
PP - converted from RAW (+1 exposure), NeatImage, cropped, levels to get the high key look, decreased saturation slightly to get back to tone down the yellow, added border, resized, USM twice, decreased gamma and increased contrast, shifted greenish hue to yellow, sharpened with noise reduction. |

Great capture of eye color. Could be improved by using more contrast between the cat & the background; you can't tell where the cat ends |

The idea of making it very bright was a good one as it does focus attention on the eyes, but you needed the eyes to be sharp and it appears the cat was moving. |
