Beautiful portrait, I love a face that tells a story and this one sure does, great lightning, colors and dof too, Good luck :)

Excellent, true portraiture of this (apparently) benevolent clan lord. What a great character and subject!

The extraordinary crisp presence here, I believe, is helped by the pervasive darkness of all but the face and hat. The background adds much, IMO, via its deeply rich and diffused colours reminiscent of the Dutch masters.

The quiet, joyful dignity communicated by this transporting portrait is astounding and memorable indeed.

My only thoughts on this, maybe a tighter crop, excellent, good luck.

He looks like a great character to me. I would have preferred a tighter crop but its a good photo, very sharp focus and good colour

Great photo. Very well executed depth of field. Very nice naturally looking colours.

Beautiful and evocative. I think perhaps a closer crop on the sides would have even more so.

Age and wisdom are always good subjects. Natural lighy makes it even better. This is a forever photo. Thanks for sharing this person with us.

My challenge favorite, 10. I love the subject's direct gaze, the focus, colors--all of it.

too much negative space around this.

Had to change my vote on this when I came back to it, great color, really says something to me. Good job. 8

Fantastic lighting. I love the dark (but not black) background it really makes the subject stand out well.

This really works - like a Rembrandt. Love the smile in this man's eyes, goes with the jaunty cap and evokes the feeling of a life full of humor and warmth. - 9

Beautifully lit, and great expression. Some people may not like the dark clothing (it disappears) but I like the effect.

A very excellent submission - though only slight teething problem for me is the very blackness of the guys over-coat. I know it can't be helped, but if the coat were greyer (or blended in with the back ground a little less) it might have given shoulders more shape? Still, a really good portait - 9.

A great capture of the subject's personality - something every portrait should strive to do. I like the tones and the lighting. I also like th euse of negative space.

Nice shot, but a good title would have added a lot

nice rich colours.. and a very natural shot... I love it .. but I find the subject a little centered. Great work.. 7 for me

I love this. The use of colour and sharp focus to project the subject out of the dark background is superb. I would love to know how you achieved the great lighting. This would have worked just as well cropped square but the weight of negative space commands attention on the face. One of the best!

Good, sharp and crisp. Too centered though. But this is something this man will surely love to see.

Wow...great character study. Perfect, spot on focus, fabulous DOF. Might have cropped slightly closer on each side, but this is a terrific portrait no matter what. Deserves a nice expensive frame and a place on someone's wall.

now this subject has so much more potential, too me it just lacks the pop and depth. I hope you don't take this wrong, but you really had a winner here if it weren't quite so flat an with perhaps a bit of different composure.

I think going in closer would create more impact, as would a portrait orientation - the space at the two sides adds nothing.

Wow. This is kind of scary. This man looks a LOT like my neighbor who died back in June. Freaky. Nice capture. Very clear, great color -- I just would haven't put him dead center in the frame.

Great lighting, very sharp, great detail in everything. A face certainly full of character and personality. Unusual choice to have him dead center in a landscape orientation, but his eyes draw me straight to him that I dont even notice the negative space either side of him.

Great subject and nice uncluttered background.
Either a tighter crop or placing the subject to one side slightly would have made it even better for me.
Wonderful image

great. The light and your choice of background work extremely well to isolate the subject. Excellent portrait. I wouldn't change a thing.
