While I understand from your title that you were going for a simple look, the end result seems a little bland to my eyes. The texture of the bread is a little plain and the DOF seems too shallow. Without the title, I'm not sure I would recognize it as bread and not a sponge or loofah of some sort.
Some additional side lighting might help to bring out the texture. |

| A different angle of view would have brought out the texture more I think. |
