I have stumbled across this image, and in reading the comments, thought it right to respond
Firstly, I am not American, therefore any argument (made by previous commentors) that it is patriotism regarding my comments is wrong......I am an Australian, and proud of it.
However, the claims that this is a symbol of war to me are incorrect. The America Nation, under this flag, have continued to defend the ideals that we, as a group of nations, hold dear. I note the variety of nations that have commented against this image, a combination of Scandinavian fence sitters, English who also went to war, and Americans that are willing to risk their freedom. I ask all fo them, will you fight for what you believe in??????
The American Nation, with the allied partners, including Australia, have fought to protect the freedom of people, both in our country and overseas on a number of occasions. The USA and Australia continur to fight together in the sands of Afganistan........I have mates there, we are fighting for a safer world.......Those willing to challenge our way of life, the freedoms we hold dear, through suicide bombing, through terrorism, through whatever means, threaten the safety of our nations and the world, and therefore threaten the peace that exists. By opposing them, we fight for Peace, making the USA flag a symbol of freedom, and for Peace in our world.
I am not a solider, but I work to support them......I can only hope that what I do ensures that each brave man and women wearing the uniform of my country will return safe and well to their family, knowing that they are making the world a safer place for their children, and for future generations. Simply by this, by their efforts, they are fighting for Peace, and thus making the flag that they fight under, be it the Flag of the USA, that of Great Britain, or that of the Commonwealth of Australia, a symbol of Peace for Future generations. |

It's so odd seeing the flag blowing to the left. It makes you look twice, thanks for that. |

Symbol of patriotism perhaps, but not peace. I like the motion blur effect to show it flying but could do with perhaps a little more sharp/infocus area. |

The flag is too blurry. It pops against the black background, which makes it even more noticably blurry. Try making the subject more in focus next time. |

Not everyone thinks so.
I like the flag against the dark sky. Not sure I like the blur though. |

As I understand it, this is the national symbol of a country whose privately owned arms industry has more influence than its elected representatives. |

I'm sorry, I see this as a symbol of war. Betsy Ross made the first flag to fly on a fort to inspire soldiers in battle. My other strong association to the American flag is the memory of the one draped over my father's casket when he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. |

symbol of freedom - yes, symbol of peace - debatable |

But it's flapping almost violently! The standard isn't in focus either. |

of peace??? orrrr war? I respect your admiration for you country but I don't think you can say that it is a symbol of peace... especially knowing how many people died for that flag, and are dying under the name of that flag now... (also if you flipped the image horizontally so the flag was flying right, it would make the picture better) |

I like the photo other than the knob on the end of the flag-pole being a little distracting. Of course as a non American I see this flag as being the opposite of peace, but that's not affected the score I've given you. |
