Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Blurry Mess (Basic Editing)
Collection: 5.0-5.49
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Location: Middleton Place Plantation, South Carolina
Date: Mar 9, 2008
Aperture: f/16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Abstract, Animals
Date Uploaded: Mar 11, 2008

This photo was taken with a shutter speed of 1/60 and a filter (very bright day) while rotating the camera hand-held. The original has the swan in a diagonal position, so it required a lot of cropping. Otherwise: auto levels, channel mixer, saturation. Who knows what will do well in this challenge, but I am pleased enough with this result.

Aaah that's a nice histogram! You made a good subset of people feel something - which, IMO, is often more satisfying than making something so technically adept that voters can't justify giving a low score. I would be very happy if any of the scads of (unintentionally) blurry swan shots I've taken came out like this! This looks amazing from a distance - truly impressionistic. Kudos!

Nicely done, reminds me of an impressionistic painting. Love the "strokes" created.

I wish the head were better observed to match up with the body. It seems to have gotten lost in the water some. Still a nice idea with pleasant blur.

I like how long it takes me to find the swan.

I really like this composition, but the circular blur (I would have prefered a more natural chaotic blur) and tight crop bring my vote down a bit. I'm giving it a 7 though because it really is lovely.

I love the colors and the blur lines work well - they add a sense of surrealism. It feels like a cross between a painting and a photo. Nicely done.
