too bad about whatever is in the way at the bottom, would have been a much better phot otherwise.

An intriguing shot, no doubt that there will be some that say because the subject does not appear to be aware the shot is being taken it is not a 'pure' portrait, but in this instance I dont think it matters.

The real thing that will make this shot 'suffer' at the hands of voters is likely to be the blur in the lower fifth of the image (not sure whether this is another person who crept in shot or vignetting, but it is quite distracting from a very interesting subject

It could have been a nice environmental portrait, with all the whites and all. But the blurry OOF thing in front is very disturbing and ruins an otherwise fine pic.

I guess I just don't get it. The hat is made of paper with a sticker on it. How is he a soldier? Is it the Salvation Army? The context of the "environment" is missing.

The blur on the bottom just doesn't help it for me... if it could help place or set the picture I could maybe appreciate it more.
