Bench and Tree, Lake Michigan on Fullerton and Lakeshore Drive, March 20, 2004, late afternoon. The day I took this, the sky was clear, the sun was shining, the lake was calm, and the temperature was mild. Next day, the first day of spring, we had 4 seasons in one day including snow.

This is beautiful, Ken. I'm disappointed you didn't enter the one that you took with your d70.:)

simple and effective. The dark tree stands out well against the bright sky.

The bottom right corner - whatever that is, it is distracting. I like the black and white. I could see this as a poster. Good job!

Excelent simple B&W shot. It is a good thing that more are not this good, it would be harder to vote.

great angle and lighting and composition the white spot in corner and wispy clouds distract a bit for me but doesn't affect the score 10 my girlfried would like this even better i'll share with her!

I like the toning and the mood presented. The minimalism of a tree and a bench is good and the toning compliments it. At first the angle of the bench was a little odd to me, but the more I look at it the more I like it. The one thing that does stand out to me is the white 'blob' in the lower right and the curb. Cloning that out to be a continuation of the grass would have probably given it a more uniform and continuous feel and not so much of a distraction.

I love the starkness of this scene set against a detailless sky.

Great photo. How lucky to find a shot with such a clear horizon and uncluttered view. I think it would be a little bit stronger of an image if the horizon line was not so even with the seat of the bench. But maybe not. It still is a very nice photo.

Conveys so well the desolate, cold, barren feeling at the end of winter when we are all so sick of blahness!

Lovely study. Excellent use of b&w photography. Good luck in the Challenge. HIgh marks of course.

(as an aside, I just wonder what it would have looked like if that stonework in front of the bench had been cloned out and replaced with grass. Just a thought.)
