 Another Flower Picture! And Not and Original Choice for this Challenge! (NOCC).

This is a particularly large and lurid magenta Anemone, photographed carefully against the background of an uninspiringly contrasting sand pathway. Cropped and converted almost to BW in Irfanview, a few rounds of minimal USM to round off colour and contrast play. I have almost as many mixed feelings about the almost BW as I do about the original colour version and maybe the flower itself, but this brought out the structure and complexity easily overlooked in the bloom, and what might be mistaken for noise are hints of the tiny hairs on the petals.

(Handheld, macro, spot focus, minimally underexposed).

Post: Don't know what to say, but I must admit I had some hopes for this one, but not for such a high standing, especially after glancing at a few of the other submissions. Very much appreciate the comments.

Appreciate all your comments. I'd like to add that this photo kind of made itself. Yes, I was careful to photograph against a plain background, bending and contorting and trying not to step on any other plants, and it was the right time of day - late afternoon, but I really wasn't thinking too much about it. I wasn't trying FOR anything, just seeing what might be seen in it. When it got to this stage in the processing/playing something said Yes, but I don't think it was me.

Remarks: A difficult subject and genre to render convincingly and without invoking cliches. This image, however, is very sensitively seen and processed. It is a marvelous, as it is. As an illustration, it would be outstanding.

Beautiful. The detail in the petals and center is wonderful. A bit of noise in the lower leaves makes this a nine. But, I really like it!
