This photo was taken indoors, with no artificial lighting. The lens used was a macro 100mm. Post-processing was minimal, really only sepia conversion.

The reasons I picked this photo were as follows -
I loved the intense look in her eyes, along with the complete lack of self-consciousness as she looks directly into the camera. Completely natural.
I like the 3/4 view, as opposed to straight on or profile. Her face is sharply outlined by the surrounding black (the shadow area).
I also liked the contrast between one half of her face and the other - one looks lighter, softer, gentler. The other looks darker, almost evil :).
Last, I liked the way the sunlight fell on her hair, lighting part of it.
