|All that remains of a children's slide in front of a one-room schoolhouse in Colorado. The tales to be told don't just include happy school day memories but, of horror. This is the site of a massacre by the Colorado State Militia, who killed 4 miners, 7 women and 11 children in 1914. From a hill behind this camera position, the Militia fired a Gatling gun over the top of this school house and into a tent city of striking miners.
Only the day before, striking miners and Militiamen had held a softball game in the ball diamond behind the school.
HDR Imaging. 7 exposures, tone mapped in Photomatix. Curves, burning, USM, cropping in PS. Desaturated the image by converting to grayscale. Converted back to RGB and then overlaid original tone mapped image (color) and decreased the opacity to 70%, flattened, additional curves adjustment, sized for DPC.
