After visiting Neuschwanstein, our tour stopped at this church in a small town - looks rather nice but plain on the outside, but the inside is amazing!

(Wieskirche translates to "meadow church", and it is indeed located in a meadow.)

Wieskirche website

The website has much better pictures and nifty panoramic views - it's available in German and English.

Our guide told us that two brothers were the primary artists/craftsmen/builders, one of which laid on his back for 6 or 7 years painting the ceiling.

Outstanding - I think your photo is much more vibrant and beautiful than those on the website.

That's one thing I do miss - the easily accessible art and history.

I love old artwork like this - they just don't make anything like it anymore.

I wonder how it compares in size to the Sistine Chapel. Even so, 6 or 7 years is an awfully long time.
