Who draws the crowd and plays so loud,
Baby it's the guitar man.
Who's gonna steal the show, you know
Baby it's the guitar man,

He can make you love, he can make you cry
He will bring you down, then he will get you high
Somethin keeps him goin, miles and miles a day
To find another place to play.

Lyrics by Bread

This is Liam of The Brazen Heads - an Irish rockband here in Phoenix.

I shot this with my 50 mm lens, which is great in near-darkness.

Sharpened, lightened with levels, cropped.

Converted with Virtual Photographer and used extreme contrast (obviously). Painted over a few spots that didn't turn black and were distracting.

Smoothed with NI and a bit of Perfectum.

This will probably bomb in FS - but hey - I like it and I don't have anything else fantastic for this month.

Here's the color version for sake of interest:

Thanks to Don posthumous for the .

I'm honored.

Dear Alicia. This image is wonderful and provides 2 simple elements that tell a whole story. Beautiful muso study. Fabulous PP technique (low key)
Good luck in the BYOAKC 2011 challenge. A worthy 1st round opponent!

hadnt seen this before and noticed the score before i opened it or even saw the thumb .. 5.2 .. thought possibly that here was something very artistic yet something the voters just couldnt appreciate .. well i got that right ... !!
totally brilliant alicia .. love the darkness, the fantastic way you've got just his face and his guitar and everything else gone .. droplets of sweat on his brow ..
very very good my friend .. an excellent image all round .. :)

Interesting to see the unedited original (which I like by the way). I'm so glad you got the posthumous yellow, it is very well deserved. It was a surprise to me that this did not score much higher.

Alicia - it's very cool to be able to compare the original to your entry. What a wonderful job you did with the PP! My fave part is the ouline of the guitar. This would make a really cool coverpiece for the band. Great job and congrats on the Posthumous ribbon!

Sheesh... gave this a 9 during voting, thought it was outstanding. Well, I still do.

Gosh after the picture you had in the male portrait I should have guess this was you (not because I think it is the same model, but because of the lighting/post processing technique)

This is really a very good shot, very powerful and given the circumstances that you took in in it is simply amazing

Hey congrats on the Posthumous Yellow as well - thoroughly deserved

I like guitar silhouette. Alone would make great artistic picture. Like symbol. Deep shadows give the man an unrealistic look. Good idea.

ah, great minimalism. I almost didn't get past the thumbnail but I'm glad I did.
