I thought I would try to realize some of the suggestions about the before picture. So, I cropped this shot to focus on the flowers; yes, I know there are four instead of three, but there you are. I did keep the cradling leaf which I agree is very nice. I cloned out a tiny sliver of the fifth bud and applied an unsharp mask to the pink portions of the flower buds.

Clearly, I do not know what I am doing with unsharp mask.

You can see the original here.

OK, now that I've suggested this change, I'm going to suggest going back to what you had. :-) I think it's because the aspect ratio of the fuller frame fits the subject matter better. It seems a bit less balanced in this crop - think?

As for sharpening - I've never selectively applied it (or if I have, I don't remember). I suck at sharpening, though, and really need to read up more on how some of our more accomplished members do it to get such nice crisp detail without the artifacts! Keep up the experimenting - I'm learning from it, too.

stunning colours .. love the way the leaf underneath seems to be cupping those flowers .. i sort'v prefer seeing more of the surroundings tho, like in your original crop, and the last two flowers on the left hand side .. .. just my personal preference .. :)

I actually like this edit quite a bit. Would you mind if I gave your original a try? I don't want to just do it without asking :)
