Several mentioned that the reflection in the window was sharper than the boys. So, I applied a Gaussian blur in varying degree to the reflection in the vane hope it would make the boys seem sharper in comparison. I also cloned out the horrible sharpening artifact on the back of the center boy's cap.

hi bill ... after your pm i decided to put your photograph in photoshop to see where i would go with it ..
i did a couple of different processes, pretty much retaining your original crop except i scaled it up 105% and did a slight rotate ..
i did a colour version which i didnt like .. a bit to grainy working on the smaller image and i was in a hurry, so their skin is a bit red still ...

& a sepia version ..

this is the workflow which will give you an idea of the process ...

i'm sure if other ppl would come up with something a lot better than i have .. :)

I like the bricks in focus, but I also liked the window reflections in focus... can't decide. LOL

Hmmmm I like the sepia but think it might be cool to ad some grain or some scratches given that the focus is soft and the sharpening not as effective as it should (dare I say it) be.. do you have any others from this shoot that are sharper??

It does make the boys appear a bit sharper, as well as the bricks and concrete. The last version is STILL my favorite! :-) I've looked at it several times now and decided the slightly out of focus boys don't bother me. It just gives the photo a different feel that we don't often see here in super sharpened DPC land.

Edited to add:
Sometimes "different" can be good, and sometimes "different" can be bad. Other times it's just plain "different." If the whole picture had been out of focus, I would have thought either bad or different for the sake of being different. But since the bricks and reflections were so sharp, I've decided that it's good different! :-) Just my opinion of course! lol
