i finally woke up super early to snag a photo of a sunrise. this is success to me because i don't usually do sunrise photography and the fact i actually got up and out there at 4:30am. had to step in a lot of duckpoop/mud to get this shot and ruined my shoes in the process. lens was my 17-55

Critique Club Review:

Color Saturation and Hue are all excellent. Brightness and contrast are also very well done. Focus and depth of field are very well done.

Horizon is nice and level. I like the way that the clouds exit the frame right at the corners on the left. Very nice touch.

So, why didn't this picture score better, when there is so much to like? I would say two reasons. First and foremost, the title didn't really expain the "success", and it wasn't obvious in the picture itself. A title that incorporated your feeling of success by getting up that early for a change, probably would have boosted your score. Many voters get pretty litteral about the challenge subject. The second, and smaller reason is the border seems a bit heavy to me. It is bold, and in extreme contrast to the image. It tends to pull my eye away from the image a bit, which is a distraction.

Overall, a very well done image, and one I could see hanging on my wall. In another challenge, this image would have done much better.

edited to add: Get your butt out of bed more often! Some of the best photos I've ever taken were first thing in the morning before people screw them up :-)

ya makes sense haha. and i will, this is a super cool spot with lots of different things to shoot.

haha i do get up fairly early every day. 5:30am cause i start work at 7. on the weekends is when i have time to go out shooting stuff like this.

Great scores are found on DPC by making the image fit the challenge - if you have to explain the image using words, then you will almost always live in the low scoring domain of DNMC...

ah, alright that's good to know, thanks :)

Nice image, Success?

It's a very nice photo, but I just don't see how this says "success."

Amazing skies with such perfect mirror on still waters...
This image deserved the full size of 640, and I'm afraid you'll lose some points for that... 8.

This is a wonderful image, The color outstanding. The reflection is awesome! I do however seem to be having a time of it connecting the title, or the image to the challenge.Would have scored this much higher if not for this.

Very nice reflections. Not a fan of the border. Success theme is not very obvious.
