This was going to be my Green entry, but I think the US-centric audience is going to be thinking "Green" pertains to recycling, not alternate forms of energy/transportation. And in Germany, bikes aren't an "alternate" - they're a primary form of transportation.
There was an open house at the air field at Wiesbaden today - first time in a long time the local public has been allowed on the post. Lots of planes on display and the opportunity to walk through them, touch them, photograph them, etc. They had food, stuff set up for the kids, all sorts of stuff. And a HUGE crowd. They set up shuttle bus pickup locations and lots of folks came that way, but hundreds (many hundreds) walked or rode their bikes. There were bikes parked all along this field, all along the road to the side of the post, everywhere!
But I doubt you'd get all that from this sorry excuse of a shot. So it'll go into my portfolio instead of a challenge. It'll get maybe five views, then I'll delete it. :-)
Regarding Barbara's comment below:
Actually, they're chained together in clumps, which is a common way of securing bikes here if there aren't bike racks or posts nearby. I'm not sure how common bike theft is, but you will rarely see a bike that isn't chained in some fashion, even if it's just a chain or lock on the back wheel so it can't be ridden away.
This is very nice, much more peaceful than cars. I wish we could ride bikes here. We have a few bike lanes but they disappear in spots and people get hit by cars a lot. But then they get ticketed for riding on sidewalks so either you get hit by a car or by a ticket.
Oh and I found this through the random image generator.
Too bad we talked before the challenge - it would have been interesting to see how this did. Obviously my own interpretation did not wow to many lol.
I love the sky and the colorful sprinkles made by the bikes. However, I especially like the story that goes with your photo. (Especially the part about locking the bikes together in clumps!) Your words add such depth to your images. :)
I really like the shot -- the colors, the contrast in textures in the grass, the color and detail in the bikes -- there's a lot to see here, but I'm afraid you're right that most people wouldn't catch the green tie-in. I like the explanation that goes with the shot, too.
And hey! I'm view Number 12 and comment Number 2 -- You're exceeding your expectations! 8P
Well I like it and think you should enter it. The composition is good, the gazillion bikes of all sorts are interesting and it's such a pretty day, perfect.
