Andres showed up today! Seems he over slept and missed the bus yesterday.
This is a quiet child who spent much of the day eyeing me when he thought I didn't know. He is the youngest (9)and he's testing me by giving silly answers to questions during math and spelling. Finally at the end of the day, I called him out on his antics as he shuffled his papers on his desk while I was trying to get his homework packet together..."you're funny" I said. "We're gonna have fun, aren't we" ...and then I winked at him. Next thing, I asked for a helper and he almost fell out of his chair getting his hand up to get picked.

During a coloring activity, after lunch, I noticed he used every color I did on my sheet and took the same care sharpening his colored pencils. He's gonna be a pleasure - and I sense he wants approval.

Wait till he finds out I'm really an art teacher with fun activities in mind.

Great portrait here Deb. That smile really pulls you into the shot, my only comment would have been to get a bit more fill into his eyes but I know how it is when your shooting from the hip.

I just read your comments about the shot, what an amazing young man. I remember my first GOOD art teachers connecting with me in a similar fashion. That REALLY makes a difference in kids lives. Good for you Deb! ;)

Ohhhhhhh. . . you are amazing! He is adorable, and you turned what could have been a difficult child into a happy fan! I think you teach much more than just art! Students are very lucky to have you!

Another handsome and happy looking young man. What a great idea to have them out looking for signs of weather and then capturing it with a camera!

That's a great story to go with the picture - you seem to have a knack at bringing out the best in them. You really captured the smile well and I like that bit of light coming down on him.

He's got a great smile, which you've captured well.
Sounds like you have a challenging but rewarding job. And sounds like Andres has lucked out, picking you as his numero uno teacher.

Nice addition to your wonderful portraits! Also like the photos with the cameras. Are you teaching future DPC members?
