Yesterday a friend and I drove up to Chino Valley to visit a a sanctuary for horses and burros.

Here in the photo you see Winn, who operates this ranch and the non-profit connected to it. He's totally dedicated and works his tail off keeping 150 burros and about 30 horses fed, watered and cleaned up. He has very little help.

My friend helped him refill the water tubs, which pretty much took all day long. I was supportive in cheering them on and taking photos.

The little guy in the photo is a three-week old burro - all white, as you can see. He's the cutest thing ever. All burros are very friendly, and he's particularly adorable. It was hard to photograph him because he was nibbling on my clothes and trying to munch on my lens and I couldn't get far enough away from him.

Eventually I left the enclosure and took photos from outside. That went for all the other burros, too - they are like big, friendly dogs.

Anyway - I had a great time and will probably post a few more of these shots for the slice, even if they aren't of the actual day.

Sounds like it was a lot of fun. I think you really captured the closeness or caring this guy has for these animals.

He's adorable. It's always a tough choice whether to include a whole person or chop them off to get a better closeup of something else. In this case I think you made the right choice. The burrow is the main subject and deserves to be center stage.

How cute! That's so nice that there are places like that, that want to rescue and help out.
