 Death Valley, California.
This shot took something special - a 1:00am start from Yosemite, drive 200+ miles to Death Valley, arrive 1 hr before dawn, hike into the dunes, shoot, hike back out in 110 deg heat, drive 400+ miles back to San Francisco. One very very special day. So who says business trips can't be fun ;-)

Thanks for all the comments and all the votes. I did enjoy myself getting this image, it was planned down to the last detail. I've never done so much research on a location before. It paid the dividend in the end though.

I have to say I found DV a stronger location for photography too!

congratulations! I already said "beautiful", can only repeat that. In regard to earlier Imagineer's comment, I definitely find Death valley much more interesting and diverse that Yosemite.

I can't believe you drove away from Yosemite!! I travelled thousands of miles to go there! Was the landscape not dramatic enough for you???
