 An old picked-over pickup truck in a junkyard. Photographed during a local Flickr meetup. Someone in our group suggested doing a meetup at an auto junkyard. It resulted in some wonderful shots for everyone and some curious inquiries from customers at the yard. You don't often see a dozen people with expensive cameras exploring a junkyard!

-Convert from RAW with Canon DPP
-Crop
-Slight adjustment of Curves
-Clarify
-Cloned out a distant and unreadable billboard that was visible through the windshield.
-Resize and sharpen.

Pre-challenge notes:
I think this shot has all the qualities to gain a high score, but I have previously been wrong (very wrong)about a shot that I was sure was a killer. I expect a mid-5 from this.

Post challenge notes:
Scored at the high end of my expectation, so I did something right on this one, but I'm still disappointed in my quest to nail the elusive wow-factor every time. (I know I'm far from the only one!) Some of the comments lead me to believe I overdid the sky a bit and it may have done a bit better if I'd held back in that area. My appreciation for the feedback left during the challenge.

good contrast between the 'car' and the sky. Suggestion: the usage of a G ND filter is too obvious.

That cloud looks like a tornado. That truck looks like it was hit by a tornado. Love the contrast between the red truck and blue sky. Only thing to make it better for me is to get rid of that tree in the foreground. 8

I thought I'd be sick of seeing junkers after thumbing through the Weathered submissions, but I actually do really like this. The colors are really nice, and this is one of the few pictures where I don't feel like the border around it detracts from the photo. The sky definitely adds a lot to it as well. Very nicely done, IMHO.

Interesting old truck, but I'm finding the sky to be too blue and unrealistic. Clouds should be white. Hmmm...looking at this a little closer it looks like the sky was substantially processed. An easier trick is to use a polarizer on your lens - that would make the truck a richer color, eliminate the window reflections (and other various items like the truck seat, etc...) - PLUS it can darken a sky and isolate clouds quite nicely. Just a thought. Good luck!
