I finally got out of bed early enough for the "crack of dawn" ride I've been intending to do. I managed to fit the SLR in my handlebar bag today. With the kit lens it fits, but not much else does. I had wanted to get a shot of the orange sun rising behind downtown, but the sun rises fast and I was about 20 minutes too late to this spot for the shot I'd planned. I still think I got a pretty good view of daybreak over Ft. Worth.

Pre-challenge notes:
I'd hope this will hit a 6, but I think at least a high 5 is reasonable to expect of it.

Post challenge notes:
Man, did I call this one wrong! Really disappointed in how this performed. Some of the aspects of the shot that I thought were cool looking effects were seen as flaws by the commenters. However, my appreciation goes to those folks that took the time to leave the comments so that I knew why it was bombing.

Just the kind of thing I was talking about. This is a great shoot which expresses a LOT of feeling.

While I see on the surface a serene look, I feel an energy and anticipation about the scene, the way you do when you get out of bed early for some event (usually to go take a shot), look out your window and are greeted by a blinding sunlight.

I like the way the sun is completely overpowering, yet there is a gentle blue sky, which still say's 'morning'.

I think what you suffered from score wise was people looking at the 'textbook technicals' and not taking time to just take in the photo as a whole.

Wow this image is highly underrated. I would've given this a 6.

The trees nicely fill the top of the picture

the image is a little too dark, which could work with a sunrise photo, but this could be tweaked to brighten the sky (make it a little more orange). Also you are shooting directly into the sun, so it has created a lens flare. Try using a lens hood, or not shooting directly into the sun to avoid the lens flare.
