Onigiri
1. basically make sticky rice and make a ball around pretty much any filling you like.
Some examples are: any cooked fish, canned tuna with mayo, pickles, a meatball, a fried egg. Ive seen almost anything inside those.
2. Take a sheet of nori seaweed and wrap it around the rice.

Miso Soup:
Make an amount of Dashi Soup Base (see below)
Heat it up and add things you might like in the soup making sure you put things that take longer to boil into the base first. My favorites are radish, spinach, and tofu. But you can add potato, any root veggie, clams or anthing els you like.
As it is cooking add 1 Tbs miso paste for every cup of stock you have into a bowl.
When everything in the soup base is cooked turn off flame and ladle some soup base into the bowl with miso paste. break up and dilute the paste. Then add the diluted miso paste into the pot. garnish with chooped up spring onions and serve.

Dashi Soup Base
I get ready made usually cause its takes too long. There are two main types, one with dried bonito flakes and one from dried sardines. I like the bonito type as it has a nice smokey flavor
so heres a link to site which explains how to make your own
Dashi 1
Dashi II

I might not be the best at describing how to makes this, so feel free to ask me for details

Very nice shot - could do well as a stock shot or in a restaurant.

I think it's elegant, but a bit dull (then again, I find the whole challenge idea to be dull). And the rice isn't sharp enough to be DPC friendly.

This was one of my faves of the challenge. Go figure that I like the arty, low-scoring photos. lol! I think it's outstanding - beautifully composed, very much in keeping with the energy of miso soup. Excellent image. You were the only one I gave a 9.

Well, this is my first "10". I can't add anything to what this composition doesn't already tell the viewer. It's brilliant in every way. DOF, lighting, the tonal qualities stun me. I love it. Well done.

I like the black crockery and the side angle but, it does mean I can't see that miso soup at all.
