My first Nikon D70 submission, imagination failure meant I had to use contingency plan 1, chillis and garlic, Strong Flavas.

Two lamps, one behind, one hand held, high ISO, narrow aperture, let the new toy do the rest.

Then, slight sharpen, add a border and submit. Fingers-crossed.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Generally, seems the background was a winner, just some A3 poster paper I bought for £0.40 in an art shop. The border has been questioned however. Perhaps I'll go for a more subtle surround next time. ;)

I thought this was a great take on the challenge and loving spicy foods I also found it to be one of the more appealing food shots I've seen on here. Gave you a 10. Adding this to my favorites. You made me salivate.

Nice use of color

Would have been great without the heavily distracting red border. A little too much glare on the chillies.

Excellent photo. I really like the color of the background you used and the great clarity of the picture. Did you mis-spell Flavors in your title on purpose?

This is a nice idea, and I like the green background with the red peppers , and the garlic, but I think that the red border is distracting, and zooming in a little bit more would help. Nice job, overall!

Great shot and lighting! I think I would've exposed this one just a tad longer or at least brightened this image up a bit. Great choice of the green background as well.

Original view of strenght. Good colors and sharpness. Very good lighting. Don't like the red frame... too large. -8

Excellent food shot! Love the green background and the subtle light. Some will undoubtedly complain about the shadows. I like them. That leftmost pepper could use just a little more light.

Great choice of background color. One of the better still life photos I've seen in a while.

The border is a great color, but it is a little too wide not to detract from the photo, which is very well lit.

Nice picture, nice idea, great use of colors, good light some might take out their slide rule and say the rule of thirds is off by a minuscule amount, and say they dont like the border and mark you down .
But not me... A nine from me, Good Luck

I like the lighting and the unique take on the subject. I would definitely do away with the red border (and I'm one who usually likes a border.) I think a small black border would do just fine. Still, I like the set up and the shot.

Cool shot... nice colors and nice shoft shadows. Lighting is good .... I don't think the red border suits the image well, but I'm not going to remove any points because of the border ... you could put any border you want on the image, so I focus on the image only ;) This is a nicely done.

Too sterile for me, but nicely lit...

Clever idea.... I really like the colours, but I don't care for the border.. it hurts my eyes. I think this would have done better without it.

I don't know why, but the red in the frame tends to be too strong of a color for the picture, drawing my eye away from the subject and onto the frame.

I dig it -- nice composition, nice color, nice lighting. I'm a little put off by the lack of texture in the ground, but that's really, really nitpicky... and I don't have any ideas on how to change it.

Lovely lighting, and good composition. The focus could be a bit more crisp to show more detail. I don't care for the heavy frame. You have met the challenge!

Lovely, subtle photo. Only the red border is too much of a distraction.

Well, this must be Italian, the chiles are red, and there is no tomatoe. Being from Mexico, I have to count you down, right? It's ok, I have an open mind! Your composition is a little to the left and those scraps of garlic skin on the canvas have got to go. But, object placement is very nice, and this is a rarest of occasions when I think that a border enhances any photo. Nice work. 8
