Challenge: Serendipity (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G5
Location: Home, in my bedroom
Date: Apr 14, 2004
Aperture: F/2.2
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/8 sec
Galleries: Vintage, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Apr 15, 2004

Not sure if people will "get" this photograph or not, but I tend to see serendipity as an un-looked-for lesson, or a scrap of wisdom stumbled upon at what is often the perfect time for it to be found out, whether the person realizes it or not. And yes, I know my grandmother's teeth were awful. ;)

Details: Shot in b&w, levels tweaked, slight colour tint added with hue/saturation, sharpened, resized, border added, NeatImage to clear up some noise and smooth over some of the old photo's flaws.

Clever. I like how the fingers seem to have a softness to them yet the photograph and the money are still sharp.

This is a wonderful Interpretation of the challenge! I wish I had thought of this :) The b&w works well with this photo, and the composition is great, too, nice job!

Doing this in black and white was a great idea. In color, the money would upstage the photo.

I like the contrast between what people think it important and what really is important.

Is the found pic b&w, too? If so, I wonder if the impact would have been greater to have your shot in color. A good reminder of what's valuable.

Too contrived for my tastes.

I think this is technically a wonderful shot. Nice, even lighting, good tones and dof. Sharp focus on the snapshot. I like the message very much as well. This is my top pick so far.

I love that you took a different point of view regarding the money theme. Finding a family picture within the bills is a nice change from the many shots showing money found in books or gardening or whatever. Not only is the theme nice, but I also like the quality of the photo itself. The composition, depth of field, sepia, lighting...all very nice. One of my favorites.
