Lol, I agree that the bamboo as the background would have probably really looked nice, but I wouldn't want to mess with the owner's display either! As it is, it's still a really appealing shot - nice warm colours |

Yuuuuummy! I agree with sfalice, the BG is a little bit overwhelming but the composition of the thyme, the blossoms, the bowl and the wood cage are so perfect together, they could fit into a recipe book from Tuscany! |

Glad to read your comments, it makes it easier not to make the same comments as other folk! However, I do find the strong backlighting does detract a little from what is otherwise a very nice shot. |

Great colors. imo this could use a tighter crop. My eye sort of escapes to the light in the upper right. |

Lovely tones, but I agree that it would be interesting to see it shot with the bamboo in the background rather than the sky |

Very nice! I love that you found 'unusual' flowers to shoot. They look marvelous with the herbs in the orange bowl. The blown background is acceptable in food shots, you are technically shooting food here, so I don't mind it. ;)
I also found the bamboo interesting. |

Absolutely correct, squash has beautiful flowers and from what I understand they are quite tasty in their own right also.
Great composition and love the earthy feel to your shot. Very natural. |

First time I see squash blossoms. Love the orange tones and the bowl/vase matches quite nicely. |

What a warm lovely still life you have here, and sharing with us. At first I thought they were pumpkin flowers, but see they are squash flowers and very similar.
The DOF, along with the balanced focused areas, work so well together with this floral image.
Thanks you for sharing this floral image with us.
Our journey has just begun..... |

Squash blossoms are so fragile, these look very inviting, contrasting nicely w/their more sturdy companions in that pretty bowl. If you have room for one more, I'm yours for dinner! |

Squash blossoms; what a clever idea! My neighbor's squash is taking over her garden. I bet if she picked some of the blossoms and used them like this she wouldn't have so very many zucchini to try and get rid of later! |

I'm so glad to see you in this group, BAMartin. I'm a fan of your work. And tend to look for it.
Okay, now to business. Yes, I want to come to your house for dinner too. Yum. Love the bowl. It's earthiness goes well with the thyme and blossoms. The b/g is (IMO) a bit bright, so, if it was mine, I'd work the curves, or whatever, just a touch to tone it down. Forgive me for saying (but), I'd also get rid of that slanted section of b/g - even if it does remove some of the blissful thyme leaves. There's enough left to show off to perfection with the other colors.
I keep looking at it (sans the slanted section) and say, "oh yeah! Nice." |

What a lovely arrangement, I bet it would look gorgeous just against those bamboo poles (that's what they look like) with no sky or other distractions around. |

yummy stuff - when is dinner going to be ready
the earth tones work so nicely together, from the box, to the bowl, to the blossom and thyme
the background is a bit bright in the upper left and seems to steal a little thunder from the flowers |
