It's quartz reticulated with gold. The lighting is sunlight with a white card reflector to fill. And, yes, I did spend too much time arranging the malted milk eggs.

I like the abstract composition in spite of the obviously staged moment but I don't know what that glassy thing is so it hasn't quite made the statement the photographer was hoping for.

Serendipity is a difficult concept to visualize. For me it means being at the right place, at the right time, and being lucky enough to capture something unique. Some of these entries are set up shots trying to illustrate that concept, and some record a serendipitous moment experienced by the photographer themselves. This is an example of the former. I'm assuming we're looking at a diamond in the rough hiding amongst the candy eggs. It makes for a colorful image, however, if someone were to see it outside of the competition, I don't think "serendipity" would be the first thing they'd think.

I like the colors and stark lighting (they're malted easter eggs, right?). The choice of the gem is interesting too, since it's of similar size and texture. Certainly not a welcome find if it ends up in your mouth though! A very fun interpretation of the assignment and one of the best "staged" ones in my opinion.

nice colors, looks a little oversharpened
