There is probably not a copier tech out there that does not hear a variation of this statement on a daily basis. The nature of the business, I suppose.
I don't expect this entry will be very anonymous, as I believe I am the only DPC member who is in the office equipment trade. I've actually not been a field technician for about 1 1/2 years. I now work in product support in the same field, but I still consider myself a technician. Besides which, this was a more interesting entry than a shot of me reviewing the accuracy of service manuals or keeping the online support site up to date.
As the basis for this, I used the corporate copy center from the Cubicles Playset. I added the screwdriver (Scrap plastic and a paper clip), so that it was clear this was the repair tech. The copier's photo conductor drum, which he is working on, is the chrome cap from a pen. I put the spring in the trash just because I liked the way it looked there. I don't know of any copier that really has a spring that big in it.
I did a version with a lot more humor in it, including my demotivational poster from the June side challenge, but the whole thing was just too busy. I'll post that in the outtakes.
Pre-challenge notes:
Not sure how this will fare in voting, though I hope it is worth at least a mid 5. I might be unique in conveying my occupation with a toy. I anticipate some comments from people telling me what junk the copier in their own office is and how the tech is always out there. I just hope they don't have any of our machines!
Post-challenge notes:
I'm both very pleased and a little disappointed in how this did in the challenge. It scored a bit higher than I had originally expected. The scores all started off strong however, and I had hopes of a 6 and a high placement for a while. Then it spent the week slowly dropping. I suppose my approach was just too different to appeal to everybody. Got some wonderful comments, though! |

LOL! Quirky! DOF a little shallow on the writing, but you may prefer it that way. |
