Of course it was staged! Unless you are really lucky or overly optimistic = finding something good in everything, serendipity doesn't happen too often. At least not to me. The idea for this photo was from observing my daughter. She often finds something interesting accidentally under her bed or by the desk. I agree, her expression should be more of delight then shock. Yup, the floor is too clean. It is definitely not her bed. Lighting could be better. I am not sure how to improve it, though - undirected light? Screens?

Are you joking? Do you think that everything except documentary photography is dishonest? My entry is a story described by one picture. It is not a film or a text but it is still a story, and even you figured it out. There is no indication in the description of the theme of this challenge that it has to be documentary. It doesn't matter whether it was staged or not, as long as the theme is shown.
Anyway, it looks like serendipity means something different for everybody. For instance, for me, a calving cow is not serendipity, maybe because being a vet I take it as a predictable beauty of nature.
Cheers

I'm not sure what's going on here. My initial response was, "Huh?". Once I understood the idea that she is looking under the bed for a book (I think) and has found an old box of candy my next thought was it is so obviously staged that it just doesn't count. By my way of thinking, one can't stage a serendipidous event. This is a very dishonest photo. |

couldn't see immediately that she was under a bed. Lighting needs to be more natural as it should be dark under there.... |

Neat idea. Too contrived, the floor is too clean. :). 8 good effort |

A pretty good staged shot, which does communicate the challenge. I think it would have been better to leave the candy wrapped--not a good chance find to find candy which is open and dirty and thus needs to be thrown away. Also, I think her look should have been one of delight, not shock/surprise. |

Cute.
A tad bit too staged, but it does fit. Good imaging & composition, even if it is from under the bed...

I think that should would have been if the candy could be better seen, not the focus on the girl's face. |

Nice entry for the theme of this challenge. I like, too, how you've chosen to frame/crop the photo. Nice. |

Cute setup, cute kid. The serendipity is having the kid cooperate in the Challenge! Love your humor. (Yep, and - another serendip? - no dustbunnies, either!) 8 |
