Nicely done. The contrast between the red background and green apple is splendid. I find the angle of the apple also appealing.

very unexpected, but i've never heard of anyone finding a penny in an apple or being happy about finding a penny in an apple

Technically, fairly well executed. A few suggestions on this particular setup to make it more "real": 1) the "bite" doesn't look like a bite - no teeth marks or jagged edges to it; 2) the penny is too flatly exposed and too shiny - it should be partially imbedded in the pulp and tarnished from the acid in the apple.
