This is my oldest. Currently the poor dear is in a cast that goes from above his knee down to about half of his foot. His has one more week to go before we go back to the doc.

(He broke it while jumping on a trampoline. Since the rest of the neighborhood was also on it, I think he just landed at the wrong time and he fractured his growth plate. The fibula looked kind of odd too.)

We are on the porch. The sun is to the right, this is at about 3:00 in the afternoon.

I bought one of those silver sun protectors for the car. Laid it down on the left side of the photo, and bounced the flash off of that to see what would happen.

I still had to do some editing (plus I cropped this) to get the skin color right and I brightened up part of his face a bit more.

Levels
HSL (for the skin and teeth)
Brightened the eyes and part of the face
darkened the shirt and part of the skin on the right because of overexposure

Would like to get to the point where I have to do less editing on the photo. For me, this was less than ususal, but I want to get a lot better with lighting and white balance.

I think you did well with difficult lighting conditions, and I love the shadow lashes on his cheek. I think it works with this composition.

I think the lighting is good except for the blown out area of his shirt. Really unless you have complete control over the lighting (or incredible luck), it's very difficult to make a shot that doesn't require some sort of manipulation in post.

I love seeing your family! Gonna see you too - SOON!

Great story here; he seems unaffected by his temporary handicap. The overexposed part of this sweathsirt's a little distracting (bla bla bla). The lighting in the face is great -- the framing is perfect!

The reflector really makes his face stand out, so your experiment worked. What I like here are the lines: crutch, shadow on right, and line on his right shoulder. They all seem to flow together for me.

Capturing this is difficult with the sun completely on one side but you did a great job. I love the way his face is lit so well. He'll be starting school with the cast, that'll make for some good conversation, and laughs. Very nice portrait and good looking boy Michelle.

I like how the crutches are included in the shot, and how you have chosen to crop out some of his head. That adds so much more context and "story" to the shot.

Hope his foot has healed well!

Poor Jack!! Looks like he's making the best of it though! Great composition, very sharp and I love the shadows of his lashes on his cheek. Eyes and teeth are beautiful!

Great detail, real smile, and a cool documentation of the accident without it being documentary like (if that makes any sense).

There is a lot of sun, but it adds character. I love the shadow of the lashes. Really sharp focus, nicely composed. I'm so sorry he's on crutches for the summer though, it must have been a real bummer.

The face is really sharp, and I love the way you have composed the shot to that the crutch is a feature. I find the logo distracting though.
