Challenge: Free Study 2008-09 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8
Location: Lorne, Victoria, Australia
Date: Sep 30, 2008
Aperture: F22
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1 Second
Galleries: Landscape, Nature
Date Uploaded: Sep 30, 2008

The Image: I had such a great day of photography! This is near Lorne on Australia's South Coast. I used a 10mm wide angle and a tripod on some rocks and a small aperture and long exposure. The sun was going down and I found this place a peaceful place to be with God and my thoughts...and my Nikon D300 :)

The Edit: I did adjustment layers for colour and levels, some dodge and burn and a layer of gaussian blur which I masked to try and create a defocus situation in the picture to give it a real 3D quality.

The Prediction: Some will love it, other won't like the selective blur stating they would have liked the image sharp right through...I am not predicting a score here...I am no good at that!

Wonderful textures and lighting. The gaussian blur helps emphasize the depth of the photo.

Wondering why this didn't do better, had it pegged for top 20 at least. Excellent colors, and I don't care for the blur (didn't even notice it was applied in PP)

Sir Livingstone paused. A rustle in the bush to the left of the creek bed had startled him, but his breath returned as he saw the source moments later, a tapir coming out to drink.

His breath then left him forever a moment later as the creature he didn't hear took him from behind.

There's a moral to this story. Never trust a Tapir.

It looks like a miniature - only with too much detail. Excellent: 10

A Lens Baby? Or selective blur?

This is a little busy but othrwise nice. I think you could have accented some of the features a bit more to eliminate the monotonality-- perhaps spiked up the colors a bit.

Interesting depth to this. Looks like you adjusted some focus areas perhaps? I see some areas of blurry focus that look out of place.

Pretty colors for this type of shot.
