 Borrowed a cup of sand from our daughter’s sandbox and asked my wife to be a hand model for couple minutes. To my very surprise she was more than up for getting all that dirt on her hands. No special light setup for this picture. Took picture in RAW, converted to grayscale, adjust brightness, contrast, black levels and finally saved for web.

Very interesting approach and angle, but to dark. Great sandy texture, and depth of field.

Very well done. I am not sure if this is a staged shot, or a real, on the street image. It does not matter for this challenge, however. The subject was to convey poverty, not necessarily to photograph the real thing.

Sorry, but the grit on the hands with the bread doesn't look realistic even for a very poor person. Otherwise well done.
