Greetings from the Critique Club
by strangeghost

The first three parts of this critique are written based purely on examination of your photo. "Final thoughts" is written after reviewing your score, photographer's comments, and voter comments.

TECHNIQUE
Colors are vivid and eye catching. Is that selective desaturation? It's an effective method. The subjects really stand out. On my monitor it looks as though it may be a bit over processed, as in a little too much USM. Not bad though and it doesn't really detract.

COMPOSITION
I like the composition. The subject is evidently the owner of the stand, waiting for a customer. Or, since he's resting his hand on the motorbike, maybe he's the customer, waiting for the proprietor to return? The brightly colored signs lend interest, as does the no parking sign just behind the bike (irony). The man's facial expression is apparent, with that slightly bored or distracted sidewise glance. I like his paunchy appearance too. As a matter of personal preference, I would have liked to see the human subject emphasized a bit more in the composition, but that's a taste matter. I think it's effective as shot too.

EMOTIONAL IMPACT
It's a pleasant image that has attractive technical merits, but it does not have a strong emotional punch. Sometimes a nice shot is enough though.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Your score of 6.0 shows that the voters appreciate the simple goodness of this shot. Some nice comments that caught a few of the same points I raised. All in all a good score, I think, for a good shot.

Seems overprocessed with saturation and possibly desat. The colors don't need any help.

I love the textures in this shot. This shot is rich ... so much is going on ... one of the best in the challenge

Apart from some oversharpening and maybe just a little too much at the top off the image, which draws my eyes away from the man, this is a nice shot. I like the monochromatic nature of the shot, and the interest in the mans face.

Effective use of selective desaturation.

What I enjoy most about this - everything is in Italian (I think) yet the gentleman, who I assume is the proprietor of this colorful stand, is wearing a shirt that says Canada. A colorful, entertaining, and quirky shot.

Good context with the environment here. I really like how his shirt says Canada, but everything is in Italian. Makes for a good mix of the senses. At the same time I am a little lost with this photo. Is the guy the vendor or is he waiting (rest comment got cut off...) as a customer? I'm guessing from the shirt he is customer. Beyond that the photo is really well done. The composition overall works and there is alot of interest throughout the frame. Highly rated.

This is great. I love the setting, the raw colors, the grain and the processing.

Nice and gritty...the tow zone provides a goo setting.
