Challenge: Street Photography III (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Sony DSC-W150
Location: Delray Beach, FL

Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/160

This was taken through a restaurant window. I was having lunch and noticed this stunning girl. I grabbed my little Sony P&S that I keep in my purse. Hence the quality is not as good as I would have liked, but I do like the moment I captured. And I like the overlay effect created by the dirty window, and the mystery of the subject. I don't expect much of a score -- I predict low 5.

PP:Crop, Shadows/Highlights, Luko Sharpen, Exposure, Hue/Sat (color mode to adjust hue for b&w contrast), Hue/Sat (to desaturate), High Pass (soft light mode), add noise, resize & sharpen, add border, save for web.

I asked a French friend to translate the French comment from Tomorrowind. I am so touched by the comment that I would like everyone to understand what he said. Here is the translation:

"The encounter theme, although a rather classical one, is really well treated in the technical and photographic sense...what is left on the retina is a furtive image, a precious moment stolen from the urban flux...a souvenir."

Thank you Chromeydome

This is one of those photos that has taken me a while to "see." At this 5th or 6th time of viewing it seems even more complex. Saker's comment comes closest to the sense of challenge that this photo presents to me. This is truly extraordinary visually and conceptually.

Yes, mysterious. The smudges on the window and the grain all work well together in the b&w conversion for a memorable photo. This was one of my favorites in the challenge, Julianne. I feel it should have done better. Nicely seen and photographed. It rocks. )

I really like this Julianne! I actually love the effect that was probably achieved by using your Sony P&S: the slight grain and nostalgic look. I think this is excellent street photography!

coming back to comment only:

It looks like you shot her through glass from inside a building - and the pp makes her look like a mannequin which to me makes this photograph interesting - like the mannequin is outside in the "real world" and the real people are inside the store ... just my take on it.. fascintating shot - bumping up

At first I was going to give a low score for being blurry, but then I looked at the lighting and expresson on her face. Good candid capture! -7-

the graininess works well here, and the dirty window adds to the feelings expressed in your title. nice work 8

I really do love the effect of an overlay without the overlay. To me there's just enough light on her face to show she's a beautiful girl, but to not show you clearly who she is - just a glimpse is all. (Comment only.)

While I like the square crop, I think the traffic light and wire at the top pull the eye away from your subject. The image otherwise is outstanding and a great capture with good post processing. Crop it down just a little on the top, and you have a frameable photo to be proud of.

Thème de la rencontre, donc plutot classique, mais vraiment bien traité, de part la technique photographique... Entraperçue, il ne reste qu'une image fugitive sur la rétine, précieux moment volé au flux urbain... un souvenir

A classical Idee, but this is here realy well done... don't you find the photography's treatment really appropriated ?! remember...

What a fabulous shot!! I'm wondering if you captured her reflection or shot form inside a store =)

I really like this. The B&W works well as well as the grain/noisy feel of the image, and the soft focus.

I love this. The grain, the rain, the square crop, the b&w and the expression captured all make this beautiful and interesting.

This is quite special. I like the way you caught her, shooting from behind the glass and how unaware she is of the moment being captured. The graininess and the rivulets of water running down the window pane add to the overall impact. I get the idea it's just started raining and she was caught unprepared without an umbrella and not dressed for the rain.
I gave a 7

A stunning image! Sheer beauty, the allure of a stolen capture, and the window & grain make the shot with the texture. 8
