I realize not the most original shot on DPC...I'm trying to put together a portfolio of nature images for a show I have next year, so I'm shooting a lot of birds right now. Taken in a sunny part of my backyard. I hung a feeder from a light stand, then shaded it with a shoot through umbrella to get the diffuse lighting. The bushes in the background are in full shade.

Oh Ann! I am a huge hummingbird photo shooter too. That's why I can appreciate the difficulty in getting a shot like this. I love the expression on this one's face. He looks so innocent and inquisitive. I'm so glad this one won a ribbon. I don't think excellent hummingbird photos will ever grow old.

Hi I'm a new member and I wanted to tell you that this photograph is probably the most breath taking photo of a hummingbird I've ever seen. I love hummingbirds! I have feeders, and flowers and all sorts of interaction with them.

Fantastic!

Of course this is Ann's. Congratulations on the ribbon! I wouldn't have thought it was yours because the wings are blurred, unlike all your others, but I guess that was the point of this one wasn't it? Good job! Nice background bokeh.

Wasn't able to vote in this Challenge, but did take a gander at a couple of screens. When this little guy popped up, my first thought was - "Boy, this is going to be one of the top vote-getters!" All of us should be so talented as to get such an "unoriginal shot" as this one! Good Luck on your show next year.

A wonderful capture. But something looks strange about the processing in the face. 6

One of my favorites in this challenge and a high scorer. Great colors, great focus AND motion blur. Raising my previous vote this second time around. 8

This is why I didn't enter this challenge; I don't have regular access to a Hummingbird ;-) He's looking a little oversaturated on the throat but the detail in the eye is fabulous, and the requisite wing blur is well-defined. I'd do a Levels adjustment to darken the background and make him stand out even more.

Amazing how you were able to capture this. Hummingbirds are so fast, I imagine it's hard to get a good image out of them. Good job.
