*** Greetings from the Critique Club ***

Hi Wackybill

Challenge
Strictly speaking this shot does not meet the challenge perfectly, you can clearly tell what the subject is and it isn't that abstract looking. However, it's not far off and you have a nice shot here. I would think your score has been beaten down due to the fact it doesnt meet the challenge well enough. An extreme closup or an unusual angle would perhaps done better.

Composition
What struck me the instant I saw the shot was how the crop was, the lower left part of the branch is partly cut of, a few pixels lower would have been better, or take a different crop and go closer. The lines are nice, branch leading corners together (nice) and the leaf make good elements in the shot. You probably cut the lower end of while shooting and wished you had made another shot with less zoom? (I hate when that happens to me...)

Lighting
Looks like the lighting is natural, It looks nice Background is nicely blurred and dark, leaving the pink flowers up center stage with all the attention. I would like to see the leaf behind the branch a bit brighter though, it does bring a nice element to it and could have been a bit more distinctive from the background.

Camera work
You've got a nice camera there and you seem to know just how to use it, good job. Perfect blurring done, and on f/7.1, perfect balance. No shake or nothing at the focal length, it's all good.

Post-Processing
The image looks fairly un-edited, and thats always a good thing. Sharp enough (not too much) and the colors are good. Going with no frame was a good idea, since the crop was a bit too tight (not drawing attention to it). Good job here.

Title and Info
Title is very nice. Info is good as well, all aperture etc. info plus the lens used (big plus for my parts). Well done.

Overall (my opinion)
Good shot, technically great but not too interesting for my taste (I'm not a flower fan). Striking contrast on the flowers and background that bring all attention towards the hearts. I gave the shot a 6 during the challenge.

Hope this helps,

Best regards, Tyrkinn

The challenge states that if you can identify it as an object, then it's not an abstract. I can clearly identify this, so I'm not really sure it meets the challenges idea of abstract, however, I do think it's a nice photo of these little flowers. I believe they are called Bleeding Hearts. The lighting gets a little harsh toward the top of the photo near the upper right. But focus and clarity are ok, and the DOF is nice as well. I like know you have these diagonally placed. Overall good. ~Heather~

Judging just the photo I would say that I like the line of the twig, but that the image is a little grainy, especially in the background. But, well, it's just not an abstract photo.

My neighbor used to have flowers like these, I always liked them. The way you've captured them here they make me think of little girls dancing in a line.

Or a line of girls following Madeline, or a female Dpcer, (pigtails in the hair!)

I see the flowers a bit differently. I see 60's style 'dos. :) Great shot and DOF! 9 for extra abstractness.

Lovely picture of bleeding hearts - the blurred background is nice. This really isn't an abstract photo though.

Nice pic, but not abstract.

Abstracts are about lines, shapes and colors. If it is recognizable as an object - it is not an abstract.

pretty flowers, not abstract.

just reality, no abstract, you might want to read the challenge description again.
