Slice of Life Side Challenge - #12

I went to Butterfly World today and experimented with some close-up filters. They were hard to use in that environment, and I was not very happy with the results of my experiments.

This butterfly shot didn't have the clarity and detail I wanted, and I had to do a lot of work to bring some life to the image. I'm still not happy with the image, but this is going to have to be it for today.

Your composition is just perfect in this shot. I understand your frustration with trying to shoot these things with the filters, I'm guessing you had a really shallow DOF and yet you managed to make it into a good shot.

Love the detail and soft colours!

Very nicely composed. I see what you mean about "life", though, as the vibrance and pop seems to be missing. Keep working at it :) Close up filters are very very very narrow on depth of field.

i love this shot julianne .. and wow to go to a place where you can shoot butterflies that are not in the wide open spaces .. i spose they'd be still pretty flighty tho .. great result and brilliant design .. :)

Not a bad result for an experiment Julianne. I've never used close-up filters so I can't comment on the clarity but I must say that you've done a great job with the colours and background with what looks like a fairly dark enclosure.

That is pretty nice composition, with the two of them on damp Spanish moss. They must have been relatively small.
I understand your frustration with the close up filters. I have a few of those, and have never used them since my slide film shooting days long ago.
You did a good job with making something enjoyable to see with this. I looked a minute, but didn't find them in my identification site.
