This IS lovely, but also cunningly shallow DOFed, and VERY cunningly conceived. |

Every time I see someone invoke or cite the "RULE" of Thirds, I cringe a little. Especially when they say the "rule" has been "violated"
At most, it is a tool that may be use in the composition of some images, where appropriate...

Thanks for the comments and the "peer" award from chromeydome. The subject is the remnant of a leaf at the base of a plant. I thought about cropping the photo and even about using the rule of thirds to put it off-center. I decided against cropping because the photo is as much about darkness as "heart" and I couldn't see cropping out the darkness for the sake of a "rule" of photography. I also didn't like the idea of an off-center composition because a "heart" generally is at the center of things. So there you have it.
I am pleased that some people appreciated the photo. I never expect everyone to appreciate anything I do. All comments, however, are always welcome. Feedback is a beautiful thing, even where I disagree with the content of the comments. |

i don't understand why people have a thing against centered composition. this is very pretty. I love how the heart is emerging from the swirl of darkness. is this a leaf then? |

Took a while to grasp the implied heart shape inside the curled tube. Very artistic. |

I like the background colours, especially in the upper left corner. |

While not my taste, I appreciate the technicals of the photo. That edge has some great focus as it relates to your theme - well done |

The play of dark and light and the extent of the contrast between them is very nice. It would have been stronger if the heart image were more evident. I might have cropped it a little tighter. |

good shallow DOF. I like the muted tones and colors. You left the framevery bif around your focus. For my taste there are too many features visible in the big space around your subject. |

Composition is dull. Bottom right is distracting. |

I really like this! Great idea and an amazing result. I wish though that the 'heart' hadn't been smack dab in the middle. |
