Yeah, I know. This is not an abstract.
I couldn't resist snapping the picture, then I couldn't think of any way to "Advanced Edit" it.

So, for your perusal...

I just ran across this picture in a thread, and noticed it was similar to some I've taken, then I noticed you're from Sonoma County where I was born.

Yeah, this should have scored better. I probably would have tried making it more "abstract" by making it a near-silhouette using Curves or Levels or something -- and probably getting the lights to turn psychedelic or something : )

So, I submit a photo with an abstact idea, instead of an abstract
image. What do I know? It's Sunday. I wanna do something.

I shoot the image. Get home. Prepare to upload. Resize for web,
decided it needed no editing. Thought I might apply some kinda filter,
...nah.

Ponder titles. Submit.

Ooh, the cruelty. Shoulda thought of a different title. Shoulda
blurred some of it. Shoulda made "an honest attempt" (according to
one critic).

All I can think is (from the bottom):

It's not;
no s**t!;
agreed;
...duh...;
thank you!;
thanks, and I now realize that;
you don't have your own opinion?;
agreed;
Thanks, I thought that, too, but AFTER I submitted it!;
Well, I wasn't trying a DIS-honest attempt;
Thanks for your objectivity. I'm trying to learn.
Thank you.

You know, I don't need a camera. I can do this with pencil and
paper. Cameras are faster, and I'm realizing that there are only so
many hours left in my life.

What I'm really searching for is that "artistic eye"; that certain
something that says to to me, "ART!" That's why I'm here. There are
so many great examples at DPC, that, (Thank God for cable internet) I'll never run out of ideas to look for... if I only had some creativity!

Of course, I won't quit. This is too much fun.

I like it. The lights are almost like living beings. Aliens!

I guess my main issue with this picture is that it lacks the "wow" factor. It's a nice composition, I like the angle, and the color is nice. it looks a little too much like an object for the challenge perhaps, but mainly it just doesn't do much for me.

I scored this very low because it doesn't seem like an honest attempt to me.

A bit like the machines in 'The War of the Worlds'. Taken from a good angle, at the right time of evening. I like this very much.

not abstract, doesn't fit the challenge

Abstracts are about lines, shapes and colors. If it is recognizable as an object - it is not an abstract.

nice compostion, but it is a lamp... it doesnt fit the theme.

This evokes a nice mood. I like the isolation of the streetlamps against the twilight sky. Strong lines and negative space. Good job.

not abstract.

just reality, no abstract in the definition of this challenge

I can tell what this is.

How is a set of street lamps abstract?
