Lots of pictures on Christmas day, but I went with a somber one rather than one showing my father's boyish glee at opening a present (just too much like a snapshot).

Fill flash (SB600 with dome) used. This is my first entry to use a flash and my first handheld.

Using ACR I increased exposure .8 stop and added fill light of 13. Sharpening off and all other settings at default. In Photoshop I applied USM 19%,40,0, cropped and mirrored the image, resized, applied USM 70%,1,0, and "saved for web" to as close to 150kb as I could get.

Generally, the focus of a shot; the point of interest or perhaps the "place where the viewers eye is drawn to" of a shot consists of , the place where the lightest value and darkest values in the photo meet, where the biggest contrast in color, either in hue or color temp. That being said, the viewers eye goes right to the hearing aid, and teh angle of the shot is way to harsh with a death stare out the window. Otherwise, nice shot.

strange portrait... the hearing aid is distracting, and te watering can doesn't belong. Compositionally its a poor shot.

Nothing wrong with you shot but the composition could of been a bit better. the light by the window was good.

Great composition and POV. Lighting is a little harsh and flattening. I wish the green watering bucket was not in the shot.

Nice shot, coming from Scotland I know how tough this time of year winter can be on the elderly! With this shot I think the fill flash has separated the indoor scene from the outdoor scene and made it look more like an abstract view of the snow rather than something with real impact.

winter can be a burden but I think, as you get older it also gets more beautiful. Nice photo. Nice story.
