Hi,
Thanks for this very interesting bird to all of us on the other side of the pond, as we say. You probably had to shoot quickly, but if not, I agree about the tighter crop and sharper focus. He is so interesting that the grass gives interest but should still be "blurred" out a little.
But hey thanks again for letting us see this amazing bird! |

Fascinating bird! You might have better luck with sharpness and isolating the bird with a smaller aperture & perhaps aperture priority mode. Still, a fun capture. Thanks! |

Nice looking bird. I wish you could have used more shallow DOF so that bird features are visible better. Also, focus doesn't seems to be there on the bird's eye. |

I take it you alarmed the poor gent. :-) A very intriguing looking bird - and I'm really looking forward to your series as an educational experience as well as for the photography! |

Beautiful image. Suggest a bit more sharpness and tighter crop. Thank you for the background info on the Hoopoo, never heard of them.
cheers,

I, too, have never seen or heard of this bird! Did you shoot this on a tripod? It seems to be lacking a little in sharpness. I look forward to more of your shots. |

PAW (for my 2009 goal counting purposes) - I have never seen or heard about a Hoopoo before. Interesting bird. I'd like to see it cropped closer to the bird to get more detail. I'm looking forward to seeing more South African birds. |

That is VERY cool! Thanks for the "scoop" on him. I have never seen a bird like that. I love it that by your description, he must be alarmed, but not so that he flew off. Great job!

Well done - nothing like a global medium to widen our horizons. Wouldn't have seen a lot of African Hoopoos without your help :)
You may be a thought short of ding-dong sharpness on this, but you got the shot and a great 'character portrayal' of the bird in its natural surroundings.
I'm looking forward to the series. |
